Supplies and Tips For a Danish Entry System
Bench - The bench serves as a physical representation of the Line of Separation (LOS). It is a good visual cue to recognize when you are transitioning between dirty and clean areas. It also provides convenient place to sit while changing footwear or other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Site Specific Attire (“Barn Clothes”) - It is recommended to have separate items of clothing that are only worn while in the poultry barn. For instance, you may keep a pair of boots and coveralls on the clean side of your Danish Entry System that you change in to as you enter your poultry barn. This reduces the likelihood of you tracking outside microorganisms into the barn.
Hand Washing/Sanitizing Station - It is good practice to provide a way to clean and sanitize your hands as you move through a Danish Entry System. This will help reduce the risk of cross contamination to your birds.
Warning Signs of Poultry Disease
As you walk through your poultry barn, look for some common signs that your flock may be infected:
Lack of energy or appetite
Decreased egg production in hens
Discoloration of wattles, combs or legs
Nasal discharge, coughing or sneezing
Sudden death without clinical signs
If you suspect you have sick birds, report it to your State Veterinarian or USDA by calling 1-866-536-7593
