Blood Testing School - commercial participants 


This version of the Indiana State Poultry Association’s Blood Testing School is intended for Indiana NPIP Participant company employees who would like to become Authorized Agents or Certified Blood Testers for Salmonella Pullorum-Typhoid testing.

The course consists of three videos, downloadable materials, and links to external resources. Participants must complete the Commercial Blood Testing School Quiz at the bottom of the webpage to pass the course and become an Authorized Agent. The course should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.


Part 1 - NPIP Overview, VS FORM 9-2, and pT Plate Test principals

In this video, Kyle Banaszak with the Indiana State Poultry Association provides an introductory overview of the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP), explains how to properly record testing data on the official USDA-APHIS VS FORM 9-2, and discusses the Pullorum Typhoid Plate Testing method for the blood testing of poultry.


Part 2 - pullorum-typhoid plate test demonstration

In this video, Kyle Banaszak demonstrates proper Pullorum-Typhoid Plate Testing technique.


PART 3 - USDA PREVENTING PULLORUM-TYPHOID VIDEO

This video from the USDA showcases correct bird handling procedure when performing Pullorum-Typhoid testing on a large number of birds. It also demonstrates the blood collecting procedure and provides a good visual on how to locate and puncture the brachial wing vein.
